Simulated Altitude & Hypoxic Training in SF Bay
We are proud to be one of the only facilities in California to offer passive intermittent hypoxic training. Hypoxic training means exercising, living in, or breathing oxygen-reduced air to achieve improved health and fitness. Our training room allows you to experience the benefits of training at altitude from the comfort of our zero gravity reclining chairs.
Customized to your unique needs, a session takes you through a cycle that moves between normoxia (the air you are used to breathing at sea level) and hypoxia (the reduced oxygen level you experience when at altitude). This therapy allows you to improve energy efficiency, performance, and recovery to help you live a more vibrant life.
When your body perceives low levels of oxygen in the blood, the body responds by creating more red blood cells, stem cells, and capillaries, and activating more than 100 genes which elicit a broad range of physical responses. Alternating between sea level (Normoxia) and altitudes from 12,000-18,000ft (hypoxia), your body learns to both adapt to low levels of oxygen in the blood as well as to build greater efficiency and responsiveness to changes in oxygen levels.
BENEFITS
• Improved metabolism.
• Increased resilience and responsiveness in sensing and utilizing oxygen.
• Increased Red Blood Cells and Stem Cells.
• Improved acclimatization to high altitude settings.
• Enhanced athletic performance.
• Decreased fatigue.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING MY VISIT
Upon arriving, our health tech host will settle you into a Zero Gravity Reclining chair and provide you with an eye mask, noise-canceling headphones and a specialized face mask that will deliver your flow of oxygen. Lasting between 30-40 min, you will be taken through a repetitive pattern where you will alternate between breathing 4 minutes of altitude air and 4 minutes of sea-level air. For the majority of clients, the oxygen concentration will vary between 11-16% which spans the altitude range from Mount Shasta to Kilimanjaro. Monitored throughout, your health tech host can adjust oxygen levels, time in hypoxia/normoxia, and the depth of your hypoxia as well as monitor your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and Heart Rate Variability. This allows for a unique and individualized experience depending on your specific level of health and fitness and your unique goals.
